1. During the summer of 2019, Miami Grille closed. I found this
out when I was moving into the Standard apartment buildings over summer. An opportunity
may exist because this is a high pedestrian traffic area where many students
live near. The prototypical customer at this place varies from college students
to 40-50 year old Gainesville residents who want a quick bite and high-quality
food. This opportunity may be difficult to exploit because of the high rent
prices for spaces in the area. I think it would be difficult to open a business
that would be successful in this space due to those reasons. An opportunity
exists here because of the area the space is located in and an establishment
that follows the trends and demographics in the area may be able to succeed. In
my experience, a spot like this on a college campus does not come around too
often, and I believe it will be exploited by one of the next few businesses
that take over the rent.
2. The second opportunity I found related to economic trends
was the rise of natural disasters due to climate change. This can be seen
throughout various countries around the globe. This raises the opportunity of
food prices to increase in these various countries. An essential factor in our
survival is eating food and most food is grown naturally. As hotter days seem
more frequent, it impacts the price of goods such as corn and soybeans. The
prototypical customer is everyone in countries that are being affected by
climate change, which is everywhere and everyone. The opportunity is easy to
exploit because everyone needs food to survive and prices will continue to rise
as temperature has. This opportunity can be seen through science and how the
earth works due to an increase of greenhouse gases.
3. Just recently, the Miami Heat started selling Miami Vice
themed jerseys. I am a huge heat fan and found this out by a Bleacher Report
article last year. This is an opportunity for the organization to make more money
off of jersey sales. The customer for this opportunity is Miami Heat fans around
the world. This opportunity is relatively easy to exploit due to the large
fanbase of Miami Heat fans and how they want to show off their support of the
team by wearing their favorite player on the team’s jersey. This is a great
opportunity for the heat organization because as a fan of the team, I knew that
once the jerseys came out that they would sell out almost immediately. In
addition, I wanted one extremely badly and ended up purchasing one just
recently.
4. In 2017, the University of Florida announced that they
would be switching from Nike to Jordan to sponsor their men and women’s basketball
teams and their football team. I read this on Bleacher Report. An opportunity
exists here as Jordan brand and the “jumpman” logo represent success and also
is an opportunity to make new sports gear to make more money. The prototypical customer
is UF students, alumni or fans that want to represent their favorite team or university
by purchasing certain Jordan brand sponsored equipment or apparel. This opportunity
is relatively easy to exploit because the University of Florida’s basketball
and football teams have a wide range of fans and supporters across the United
States.
Hey Blake! I love the economic and regulatory trends that you chose to discuss and I think their is a lot of potential with each opportunity proposed. In regards to Miami Grille closing, I agree that there is definitely new opportunity there. I constantly notice the high traffic around that area, both on and off the roads, and agree that a new restaurant could open up and be very successful. Of course, as you mentioned, rent is probably extremely high. I’m sure that’s why Miami Grille closed. Hopefully something can open up soon there to take advantage of the space! Great post!
